Little penguin Pink was lying in bed, unable to fall asleep.
“Pink, it’s bedtime. Why aren’t you sleeping yet?” her mom asked.
“Mom, I’m waiting…”

Just then, the phone rang—ring ring ring!
Pink immediately picked it up, both excited and nervous.
“Hello?”
“Pink, is that you? You must be Pink!”
“Yes, I’m Pink! Are you Blue? You must be Blue!”

You see, Pink lived in Antarctica and was very curious about the other side of the Earth—the Arctic. Her mom had found lots of videos about the Arctic to show her. When she saw a little polar bear in one of them, she became even more curious. There were no polar bears in Antarctica—she had never seen one before.

When little polar bear Blue heard that Pink was interested in the Arctic, he asked his mom to help him film some videos to show her his icy homeland.
In return, Pink asked her mom to help her make some videos about her home in Antarctica for Blue.
They were both full of questions and quickly became good friends.

Tonight, Blue had promised to call and say goodnight before bed, so Pink was waiting, both excited and a little nervous.

Blue really did call.
“Pink, is it nighttime over there too?”
“Yes! But here, even at night, it’s bright like daytime—and you can still see the sun! I don’t know if you’ll understand. The little kangaroo didn’t.”
“I understand! I do! That’s called a polar day—no night, only daylight. We have that in the Arctic too, for a few months each year.”

Pink gasped in delight. “I didn’t know the Arctic has polar days too! Blue, is it polar day there now?”
“Nope! Right now, it’s polar night. No daylight at all—just night.”
“So we both have polar days and polar nights… but at opposite times! That’s amazing!”

They chatted and chatted until both their moms told them it was time to sleep.
“Goodnight, Pink,” Blue said. “Santa Claus is getting ready to leave from the North Pole to bring presents to children all over the world. I’ll ask him to bring my gift to you too!”

Pink hung up, feeling warm and happy inside.
That night, she dreamed that Santa Claus brought Blue’s gift to her—and even took her on a magical trip to the Arctic.
In her dream, Pink smiled peacefully.
