A cute little lamb was drinking water by the river.
At that moment, a wolf passed by, and upon seeing the lamb, it couldn’t help but drool, wanting to eat it.
However, the wolf thought it needed to find an excuse, otherwise, people might criticize it.
So, it walked to the river and pretended to drink water. After taking a few sips, it angrily said, “You little lamb! You’ve muddied the water, how am I supposed to drink it? I’ll eat you as punishment, you don’t mind, do you?”
The poor little lamb, startled, said, “Mr. Wolf, you’re upstream and I’m downstream. The water flows from you to me. How could I have muddied your water?”
The wolf, at a loss for words, replied, “I heard that last year you spread rumors and slandered me. I’ll eat you as punishment, you don’t mind, do you?”
The poor little lamb said, “But I wasn’t even born last year. How could I have slandered you?”
“Then… it must have been your brother. I want you to take your brother’s punishment!”
“But I don’t have a brother.”
“Then… it must have been someone from your family. You’ll take the punishment for them!”
With that, the wolf couldn’t wait any longer and pounced on the lamb.
This story teaches us: Cruel people can always find an excuse for their cruelty.
