There was a donkey who had worked hard for its owner all its life. As it grew older, it could no longer work, and the cruel owner decided to get rid of it.
The donkey sensed that misfortune was about to befall it, so it ran away. It thought, “I’ll go to the big city. Ever since I was young, I’ve dreamed of becoming a musician. Maybe I can make my dream come true there!”
On the way, the donkey met a dog. The dog had also run away because it was old and could no longer help its owner hunt, so the owner was about to kill it.
The donkey said, “I’m going to the big city to become a musician. Do you want to come with me? Maybe you can be a musician too.”
The dog happily agreed.
So, they set off together, and having a friend made the journey less lonely.
Later, they met a cat and a rooster. Both had been abandoned by their owners as well.
The donkey invited them to join in their journey to the city to become musicians.
The four of them continued their journey together, pursuing their dreams of becoming musicians.
One night, they came upon a house and decided to stay there for the night.
But they soon realized it was a hideout for robbers. The robbers caught them and said they would eat them.
The donkey said, “We can’t just wait to die; we have to come up with a plan.”
They whispered among themselves and came up with an idea.
The dog climbed onto the donkey’s back.
The cat climbed onto the dog’s back, and the rooster flew up to the cat’s head.
Then, they all started making loud noises.
The donkey brayed, the dog barked, the cat meowed, and the rooster crowed.
It sounded like a concert!
They charged into the house.
The robbers were feasting, and when they heard the strange sounds and saw what they thought was a monster, they were so frightened that they ran away in terror.
The four friends ate the robbers’ feast ravenously and then turned off the lights to sleep.
Meanwhile, the robbers, having fled, started to doubt whether it was really a monster. They decided to send one of their men back to check.
The robber tiptoed back into the house.
The cat, being very alert, was the first to wake up. It jumped up and scratched the robber’s face.
The dog woke up too and ran over to bite the robber’s leg.
Then the donkey kicked him in the backside, and the rooster pecked him hard.
Terrified, the robber ran out the door, breathless, and told his companions, “It’s not just one monster in there, but many of them!”
The robbers were so scared that they never returned to the house.
And the four friends stayed in the house, living happily together ever since.
