The Dog and its reflection

A dog, famished, roamed outside in search of food.

Luckily, it stumbled upon a piece of meat. Carrying it in its mouth, it hurried home, planning to enjoy a good meal.

As it passed by the riverside, it noticed another dog also carrying a piece of meat.

It thought to itself: “I’m so hungry, one piece of meat won’t be enough. If I take that piece too, I’ll have a satisfying meal tonight! Besides, that piece looks even bigger than mine.”

With this in mind, the dog dropped its own piece of meat and shouted to the other dog across the river, “Hey! Give me your piece of meat nicely, or else I won’t be polite!”

Unexpectedly, the dog in the river also dropped its meat and fiercely shouted something back at him.

The dog thought to itself: “It seems this dog isn’t willing to give me its meat. Maybe it also wants mine. I need to show it who’s boss.”

With this in mind, the dog lunged into the river to snatch the other dog’s meat. But there was no meat, no other dog in the river; it was just its reflection.

Realizing its mistake, the dog climbed out of the river disappointedly.

But just then, a surge of water washed away its piece of meat.

The dog was left hungry once again.

This story illustrates that being too greedy can leave you with nothing in the end.
