A fox accidentally fell into a well and tried every way to climb up, but kept falling down each time.
Just as the fox was anxiously spinning in the well, a goat arrived at the edge of the well.
It was extremely thirsty and immediately ran over upon seeing the well.
However, upon seeing that the water in the well was a bit deep, it couldn’t reach it.
Disappointed, the goat was about to leave, but the fox that had fallen into the well immediately started to scheme.
The fox called out to the goat, saying, “Dear goat friend, beloved friend, don’t you want to taste this sweet and delicious well water? The water in this well is the best spring in the world!”
The thirsty goat stopped in its tracks upon hearing this and turned to look at the fox in the well, asking, “Is what you’re saying true?”
The fox replied, “Of course it’s true! Why else would I be in the well? It’s because the water is so good that I purposely jumped in to drink it. Come on, jump in and drink as well. Since we’re both here, it would be such a waste not to taste this best spring water in the world!”
Upon hearing this, the goat, without hesitation, immediately jumped into the well and gulped down the water greedily.
After drinking, the goat was no longer thirsty, but it couldn’t help but think that the water wasn’t as tasty as the fox had claimed.
Moreover, now it was stuck in the well and couldn’t get out. What should it do?
The fox, seeing that the goat had indeed been fooled, almost laughed out loud.
But it continued to pretend to be kind.
It patted the goat’s shoulder affectionately and said, “Dear goat friend, since we’re both stuck here now, let’s work together. I guarantee that if we help each other, we’ll definitely get out together. I have an idea: you lie against the well wall to stand up like a person, then you’ll be as tall as a human. I’ll climb on top of you, jump out of the well, and then pull you out. That way, we’ll both be saved!”
The goat agreed.
Following the fox’s method, it indeed jumped out of the well, but instead of helping the goat, it turned around and walked away.
The goat panicked and shouted from the well, “Didn’t you say you’d pull me up after getting out of the well?”
The fox turned to look at the goat, chuckled, and said, “That’s your own fault for being foolish. Who told you to jump into the well without figuring out how to get out?”
With that, the fox walked away.
At that moment, a crow, who had been watching from the tree, sighed and said to the goat, “I’ll go get someone to help you, but remember, always think through the consequences before doing anything.”
