The Sleeping Beauty : A Very Short Story

Once upon a time, a king and queen had a baby princess. They were overjoyed and invited seven fairies to the princess’s christening.

However, an old fairy was not invited, as she had not appeared for years and the king thought she had passed away. Feeling slighted, she harbored resentment.

At the christening, as the fairies bestowed blessings upon the princess, the old fairy suddenly arrived and spitefully declared, “I curse the princess to touch a spindle and die when she turns fifteen!”

Then, she stormed out.

Everyone was horrified because the seven fairies could not undo the curse.

Only the youngest fairy had yet to give her blessing. She said, “Although I cannot break the curse, my gift to the princess is this: she will not die but fall into a deep sleep, and after a hundred years, a handsome, kind, and wise prince will awaken her.”

The princess grew up to be as beautiful, intelligent, and kind as the fairies had blessed her to be, and everyone adored her.

On her fifteenth birthday, she was joyfully exploring the palace when she stumbled upon an abandoned attic.

There, she found an old woman spinning thread. Curious, the princess approached, and as she touched the spindle, she immediately collapsed, fulfilling the curse.

But the young fairy’s blessing also came true. The princess did not die but fell into a deep sleep.

At that moment, everything in the palace froze: the king, the queen, and everyone fell into slumber.

Around the palace, trees, thorns, and weeds rapidly grew, enclosing it completely.

Years passed, and the tale of the enchanted forest and the sleeping princess spread far and wide.

Many princes attempted to reach the palace but were thwarted by the impenetrable thickets, leaving them wounded and defeated.

A hundred years later, a prince passing by heard the legend and decided to try.

Strangely, the trees and thorns no longer blocked his way, but instead parted automatically to make way for him.

The prince entered the palace effortlessly and found the sleeping princess, who was even more beautiful than he had imagined.

He gently kissed her forehead and said, “Beautiful princess, it’s time to wake up!”

A miracle occurred. The princess slowly opened her eyes, as if waking from a long nap.

At that moment, the entire palace came back to life: the king, the queen, and everyone else awoke.

This hundred years seems like a second.

Later, the princess and the prince were married, living happily ever after.
