The Wolf and the Seven Little Goats – A Retelling

In a beautiful forest, there lived a mother goat named Bailey and her seven kids. They lived happily together.

But in the same forest, there also lived a big bad wolf named Jimmy, who constantly wanted to eat the seven little kids. Just thinking about their tender, white meat made him drool.

However, because the mother goat was always careful and the little kids were very clever, Jimmy never succeeded.

One day, seeing that the mother goat had left, Jimmy decided to try again and knocked on the little kids’ door.
He squeezed his voice and pretended to be the mother goat, saying, “Little ones, open the door, Mommy is back.”

The little kids asked, “Who are you?”

“Don’t you recognize my lovely voice? I am your mother, quickly open the door,” Jimmy said.

To sound like their mother, Jimmy had practiced a lot.
“Hmm, that does sound like Mommy’s voice… but Mommy always says that the big bad wolf is good at disguises, let’s check for other clues.”

The little kids peered through the crack at the bottom of the door and said, “Wow, it really is Mommy’s white feet, not the wolf’s big black claws.”

Jimmy trembled with excitement, thinking the little kids were starting to believe him. This time, he was fully prepared.

He said, “Not only are the feet like your mother’s, look through the window! From head to toe, I am your mother!”

The little kids pulled back the curtain and said, “It really is Mommy!”

“Little ones, it’s really me, your mother, no need to doubt. Quickly open the door!”

The seven little kids hurried to open the door.

As soon as the door cracked open, Jimmy reached his hand through and tried to push it open.

But just then, someone inside pushed the door back, and a loud voice shouted, “Don’t open the door!”

The little kids were startled and turned around, crying out, “It’s Mommy! How can there be two Mommies?”

Mother goat Bailey said, “I saw this guy pretending to be me outside the door, trying to trick you into opening it, so I quickly came in through the back door. But I was too late. Kids, push the door with all your strength!”

When Jimmy realized he was exposed, he grabbed the door with one hand and tore off his disguise with the other.

The seven little kids screamed, “It’s Jimmy!”

It turned out that Jimmy had specially had someone sew him a woolen coat to trick the little kids. When he wore the coat, his disguise was so convincing that he looked just like the mother goat, just like the wolf in the fairy tale who wears a goat’s skin, and no one could recognize him.

When the little kids saw it was the big bad wolf Jimmy, they pushed harder against the door. But even with the mother goat’s help, they couldn’t stop Jimmy’s strength. The door started to crack open.

Jimmy pushed the door with all his might and smugly said, “It’s too late. The door is already open. Do you really think you can stop me with your strength? Surrender…”

Before he could finish, he suddenly yelped, withdrew his hand, and the door slammed shut.

It was the clever third little kid, Clever, who had noticed the door was about to be pushed open. In a moment of inspiration, he grabbed a hammer and hit Jimmy’s outstretched hand. The blow hurt Jimmy, making him pull his hand back, and the door closed.

The seven little kids cheered.

Jimmy rubbed his sore hand, stomped his feet in anger, and said, “I’ll be back!”
