The Donkey, the Fox, and the Lion

The donkey and the fox were best friends, always together and sharing everything.

But one day, the fox encountered a lion and was captured.

As the lion was about to eat the fox, the fox quickly said, “Your Majesty, don’t eat me! The donkey has much more meat than I do. If you promise to spare me, I will trick the donkey into a pit, so you can feast on it without any effort.”

The lion agreed and let the fox go.

The fox ran back to the donkey, pretending to be out of breath, and said, “The lion is right behind me! Quick, jump into the pit and hide!”

Unaware that his best friend had betrayed him, the donkey hurriedly jumped into the pit.

At that moment, the lion, who had been following behind, arrived.

The fox said, “Your Majesty, I have tricked the donkey into the pit. Please enjoy your meal!”

But instead, the lion pounced on the fox first.

“I will eat you first!”

The fox struggled and cried, “You broke your promise! You said that if I tricked the donkey for you, you would spare me.”

The lion sneered, “You betrayed your best friend—what right do you have to accuse me of breaking a promise?”

This story teaches us that a traitor will eventually be betrayed.
