Winter has arrived. Little Bear watches as Mama Bear spreads a thick cotton blanket over the bed.
Once it’s ready, Little Bear jumps onto the bed.
“Wow, Mama! This bed is so warm and cozy. It makes me want to sleep right away.”
Mama Bear smiles and says, “No rush. This time, we’re going to sleep for the whole winter.”
“The whole winter? That’s so long!”
Mama Bear nods. “That’s right. We bears sleep through the entire winter—it’s called hibernation. Winter is very cold, and there’s no food outside, so hibernation helps us get through it.”
“Mama, do we have to sleep right now?”
“Not yet. There’s something important we need to do first.”
As she speaks, Mama Bear sets up a feast on the table.
Seeing all the food, Little Bear can’t help but gulp.
“Wow! There’s fish, meat, and even my favorite honey for dessert! Mama, why did you prepare such a big meal?”
“Because we need to eat a lot before hibernation. That way, we can store energy to get through the winter. Now, eat up!”
Little Bear eats until he’s completely full. Then, he takes a warm, relaxing bath before snuggling into bed.
Listening to Mama Bear’s bedtime story, he drifts off into a sweet sleep—one that will last all winter long!
