The Lion’s Share

The lion, wolf, and fox decided to team up and agreed that whoever caught the prey would share it with the others.

The wolf was the first to catch a deer and called the lion and fox to join the feast.

The lion cleared his throat and said, “As the Lion King, I am the fairest. I’ll divide the food.”

He split the deer into three parts and then declared, “The first part is mine, as I am the lion King.”

He placed the first part in front of himself.

“The second part…”

The wolf and fox, stomachs growling, waited anxiously for their share.

But the lion said, “The second part is also mine, because I am the strongest.”

He took the second part as well.

The wolf and fox, shocked, asked, “What about the third part?”

“The third part,” the lion growled, “is mine too, because I am the bravest!”

He took the last part and glared at the wolf and fox. “Any objections?”

The wolf and fox, though furious, could only back away in silence, intimidated by the lion’s ferocity.

Might makes right.
