Stepmother’s Lie

Cinderella saved a little girl who was nearly frozen to death and brought her to the orphanage.

one day, her stepmother and two stepsisters suddenly appeared at the orphanage.

Sarah, the elder sister, looked around at the children running and playing, her face full of disdain. “Mother, why are we here? These kids are dirty and annoying!”

“The prince has been visiting here frequently,” the stepmother said, “I heard he’s searching for a young lady who saved a nearly frozen little girl. He praised her kindness and seems to like her very much… Listen carefully: when we meet the prince, you must insist that you were the lady who saved the little girl!”

“But we weren’t—”

“As long as we insist, the fake will become real!” the stepmother declared.

Lily, the younger sister, hesitated. “But I heard that little girl is in this orphanage now. We don’t even know who she is. If the prince asks, we’ll get caught easily.”

“That’s not a problem.” The stepmother glanced around and spotted Cedric. She immediately called out to him.

Cedric—who was actually Cinderella in disguise—had been helping at the orphanage. Seeing her stepmother and stepsisters, she was shocked.

She walked over, exchanged a few pleasantries, and then the stepmother slyly asked, “I heard that a young lady  saved a little girl who was almost frozen to death and brought her here. Who is the little girl? Poor thing, we’d love to meet her.”

Cinderella found her stepmother’s sudden kindness suspicious. After all, on that day, she had rudely pushed the little girl away.

But without thinking too much, she pointed to a little girl in the distance. “It’s her.”

The stepmother and her daughters glanced at the girl, finding her somewhat familiar, but they had long forgotten that they had once rudely treated her.

As Cinderella walked away, the stepmother stared at her back and muttered, ” That Cedric… Even though he’s a man, the more I look at him, the more he looks like Cinderella. And that makes me hate him even more!”

Before she could say anything further, the prince appeared. The stepmother quickly stepped forward to greet him.

“Your Highness, I heard you are looking for a young lady who saved a little girl. I know who she is.”

“Really?” The prince immediately stopped. “Who is she? Where is she?”

“She is my daughter.”

“Don’t joke with me!”

The prince wanted to leave, but Mrs. Meg blocked his way and kept talking nonstop, as if she wouldn’t let him go unless he believed her.

Helpless, the prince sighed. “That little girl is among these children. Since you claim to have saved her, you must know which one she is, right?”

“Of course!”

Without hesitation, they pointed at the little girl at the same time.

The prince was taken aback. He had no idea that Cinderella had told them. He glanced at Lily, then at Sarah.

“But neither of you look like the young lady who saved the little girl!”

“It was us! It was dark that night; it’s no surprise that Your Highness couldn’t see clearly!”

They insisted firmly.
