A man needed to take a long journey, so he rented a donkey to ride, with the donkey’s owner leading the way as a guide.
During a break, the blazing sun beat down on the ground, and there was no shade in sight. The man rested in the donkey’s shadow to escape the heat.
The donkey’s owner, unhappy because he also wanted to rest in the shadow, said, “Move over! You only paid for riding the donkey, not for its shadow!”
The man, annoyed, replied, “You’re so greedy! I’ve never heard of paying for a shadow!”
The argument escalated, and eventually, they began fighting.
In the commotion, the donkey seized the chance to break free and ran away, taking the shadow with it.
Moral: This story shows that we often quarrel over trivial matters, only to lose what truly matters in the end.
