The Dog, the Cockerel, and the Fox

The Dog and the Cockerel were good friends who decided to travel together to explore the world.

They set off, and by evening, they arrived at a hollow tree. They agreed it would be a perfect place to spend the night.

The Cockerel flew up to perch in the tree, while the Dog curled up inside the hollow. They slept comfortably through the night.

At dawn, the Cockerel crowed as usual, which startled a nearby Fox.

Following the sound, the Fox found the Cockerel perched in the tree and thought excitedly, “What a delicious breakfast this will make!”

The Fox called up to the Cockerel, saying, “Dear friend, you’re up so early! You must be new to this area. Come down, and I’ll show you around our forest. I’d even like to invite you to breakfast!”

In his mind, he was thinking, You will be my breakfast!

The Cockerel, sensing the Fox’s deceit, replied, “Ah, thank you for your kind offer! But why don’t you come inside my home first? See that hole at the base of the tree? That’s the entrance to my house, and my doorkeeper will let you in and bring you up.”

The Fox eagerly entered the hole, but as soon as he did, the Dog grabbed him.

This story illustrates that those who try to deceive or harm others often face similar consequences themselves.
